Brazil. Bishops call for respect for the result and President to defend the Constitution
The National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) called for respect for the election results and urged the next President to uphold the Constitution. They emphasized the need for dignity, human rights, and environmental care in Brazil. The CNBB responded to accusations from right-wing candidate Flávio Bolsonaro regarding false news about the patronage of Our Lady Aparecida. They reaffirmed the importance of democratic principles and encouraged conscious participation in the elections. Despite a decline in the proportion of Catholics, the CNBB expressed hope for unity and peace in the country.
