Will Breivik be released? The court will once again consider the application

On July 22, 2011, Anders Breivik carried out a bombing in Oslo, killing eight people, and then shot 69 others at a Workers' Party youth camp on Utoya Island. He was sentenced in 2012 to a maximum of 21 years in prison, with the possibility of extension if deemed a continued threat. Breivik has applied for parole multiple times, but his requests have been denied due to psychological evaluations indicating a high risk of reoffending. His current sentence can be extended every five years if he remains a danger to society. Norway abolished the death penalty in 1905, and the maximum sentence is now 30 years, although laws were tightened after Breivik's attacks. Experts note that the Norwegian justice system was unprepared for such violence.
