Brussels accepts Temu's plan to address shortcomings in the fight against illegal products in the EU
The European Commission has accepted Temu's action plan to address compliance issues regarding illegal products on its platform. The plan includes five measures, such as conducting a specific risk analysis and using reliable metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of actions taken. Temu will also assess its content moderation mechanisms and investigate how recommendation systems may inadvertently promote illegal products. The Commission has given Temu four months to conduct an interim risk assessment, aiming to ensure compliance with the proposed measures. This initiative follows a non-compliance decision from May 2026, where Temu was fined 200 million euros for failing to meet risk assessment obligations.
