Brussels accepts Temu's plan to address shortcomings in the fight against illegal products in the EU

The European Commission has accepted Temu's action plan to address compliance issues regarding illegal products on its platform. Following a €200 million fine in May 2026, Temu has four months to present an interim risk assessment. The plan includes five measures to rectify identified shortcomings, such as conducting a specific risk analysis and using reliable metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of actions taken. Temu will also assess its content moderation mechanisms and investigate how recommendation systems may inadvertently promote illegal products. This initiative aims to enhance consumer protection online and limit the spread of illegal products in Europe.
