Brussels wants EU administrative reform by the end of 2026

The European Commission aims to enhance its efficiency and responsiveness through a comprehensive organizational review, with recommendations expected by the end of 2026. President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the need for a quicker, simpler, and priority-focused administration to better serve citizens. The review will streamline procedures, clarify structures, and improve inter-departmental cooperation, especially in light of rising living costs. It also aims to prepare staff for future challenges by leveraging AI and technology to reduce bureaucracy. The initiative follows a report from a High-Level Reflection Group led by Catherine Day, which included external experts and gathered extensive feedback from Commission employees.
