Brussels wants the EU prepared for 3º C global warming

The European Commission proposed that EU political decisions consider the potential for global warming to reach 3°C by 2100, following a summer of extreme temperatures. Vice-President Teresa Ribera emphasized the reality of climate change, citing 30,000 to 50,000 premature deaths in Europe this summer and significant economic losses. The Commission introduced the "European Framework for Climate Resilience" to prepare for a warmer climate, advocating for policies that account for climate change impacts. Measures include a "Climate Insurance Alliance" to increase insurance coverage for disaster losses and the development of digital tools for climate event preparedness. The initiative aims to create a unified national strategic plan for climate risk management.
