Brussels recommends Europeans to have emergency 'kits' for the first 72 hours after emergencies
The European Commission has recommended that member states encourage citizens to prepare emergency kits for self-sufficiency during the first 72 hours after a disaster. This advice was issued during the European Civil Protection Forum in Brussels, highlighting that national response systems are often under significant pressure during this period. The kits should include non-perishable food, water, medications, and first aid supplies. Additionally, the Commission suggests integrating climate risk preparedness into educational curricula and making preparation measures more inclusive for people with disabilities. A proposed European Preparedness Day on October 23 aims to promote active citizen participation in emergency readiness.
