Brussels refers to Lisbon for the maintenance of public order
The European Commission refrained from commenting on the housing crisis protests in Portugal, stating that maintaining public order is the responsibility of national authorities. This follows clashes during protests in Lisbon and Porto, where a court ruled that restrictions on protests are not absolute. The Ministry of Internal Administration argued that the court's decision does not address police actions or the legality of tents in public spaces. The PSP confirmed compliance with the court's ruling while dispersing protests, resulting in injuries. The situation has prompted inquiries from the President and legal complaints against officials.
