Lisbon City Council intends to name a section of the Central Axis "Avenida 25 de Novembro"

The Lisbon City Council plans to name a section of the Central Axis "Avenida 25 de Novembro (1975)" and another section "Avenida Jorge Sampaio (1939-2021)". These proposals, put forth by Culture Councilor Diogo Moura (CDS-PP), will be discussed in an upcoming meeting. The naming of the first avenue commemorates a pivotal moment in Portuguese history, marking the end of a revolutionary period. The second avenue honors Jorge Sampaio, a significant political figure who contributed to the consolidation of democracy in Portugal. Moura also proposes awarding the Municipal Medal of Cultural Merit to actress Maria Rueff and television presenter Eládio Clímaco. The council currently holds a majority with eight members from PSD/CDS-PP/IL and one independent.
