World marathon champion suspended for doping

Kenyan marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir has been provisionally suspended for doping after testing positive for EPO. The 33-year-old athlete, who won the Sydney Marathon in August, is among over 140 Kenyan athletes suspended for doping since 2017. Kenya, a powerhouse in long-distance running, is set to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships and is urged to set an example in the fight against doping. The president of the World Anti-Doping Agency emphasized the importance of these championships in promoting clean athletics in Kenya.
