Canadian publisher Boréal ends relationship with novelist Thélyson Orélien over alleged use of AI
Thélyson Orélien, a Haitian Canadian author, faces controversy after his publisher confirmed the use of AI in his novel's writing process. Initially denying the allegations, Orélien's publisher, Les Éditions du Boréal, ended their relationship with him following an investigation that revealed AI traces in the manuscript's metadata. The novel, which addresses migration, was withdrawn from France's prestigious Prix Goncourt list after AI detection tests indicated it contained computer-generated text. Orélien maintains that while he used AI for research, no sentences were machine-generated. He acknowledged past plagiarism mistakes but emphasized his commitment to originality in his work.
