Funchal Captaincy recommends avoiding seaside walks

The Port Authority of Funchal has advised the public to avoid seaside walks and recreational fishing due to adverse weather and sea conditions expected in Madeira until Sunday. A warning issued based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) highlights the risk of waves reaching seemingly safe areas. The authority recommends staying away from exposed areas like port breakwaters, cliffs, and beaches, and advises against fishing near cliffs and breaking waves. The warning, valid until 6 PM Sunday, predicts waves of 1.5 to 2.5 meters on the north coast and 1 to 1.5 meters on the south coast, with moderate to fresh winds. Visibility may deteriorate by the end of the morning, and the authority urges securing moorings and closely monitoring anchored vessels.
