Fuels, Italy at the top in Europe for diesel taxes. On one liter of diesel, 1.08 euros go to the State

Italy has the highest diesel taxes in Europe, with 48% of the final price going to the state. Following the end of the excise cut on October 5, the situation may worsen if discounts and price caps from oil companies are not extended. The average tax burden on diesel in Italy is significantly higher than the European average, leading to increased costs for consumers. While Italy ranks seventh in diesel prices, it has the third highest taxes on gasoline, at 51.4%.
