Carney: Canada will become the first associated member of the EU
During the Canada-EU summit in Montreal, a declaration was made regarding a new partnership aimed at enhancing cooperation. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized that the partnership will provide more opportunities and broader sovereignty for Canada. The details of the partnership will be finalized before the next Canada-EU Council meeting scheduled for June 2027. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen noted that while Canada cannot become a full EU member due to its geographical location, the collaboration will focus on politics, programs, and government actions.
