Gas prices are rising. Will there be a government response?
Natural gas prices in Europe have risen above 100 euros per megawatt-hour due to concerns over potential U.S. military actions against Iran, which could disrupt Middle Eastern supply chains. The current gas tariff for households is set until the end of the year, with price increases expected. Reports suggest that the government has decided to intervene, utilizing mechanisms from previous years to freeze prices and compensate sellers for the difference between statutory prices and URE tariffs. Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka indicated that discussions are ongoing regarding protective measures for both gas and electricity. Finance Minister Andrzej Domański confirmed that solutions for rising wholesale energy prices are being developed, with announcements expected in November.
