China not interested in US-Russia summit on Ukraine, German president claims

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier revealed that Chinese President Xi Jinping is not interested in hosting a three-way summit on Ukraine involving Russia and the U.S. Steinmeier noted that Xi expressed surprise at the proposal and emphasized the need for European officials in the peace process. Although a meeting between Xi, Trump, and Putin may occur at the APEC summit, the focus on Ukraine remains uncertain. The U.S. president is open to discussions on arms control, while Putin aims for a favorable peace deal for Russia. Kyiv criticized the idea of a summit without its participation, advocating for direct talks involving President Zelensky. Despite claiming neutrality, China continues to support Russia economically during the conflict.
