China has punished nearly eight million people since the start of Xi's anti-corruption campaign

Since Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign began in 2012, nearly eight million individuals have been punished in China, including 963 high-ranking officials. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection reported that 8.1 million cases were opened, resulting in sanctions for 7.92 million people. The campaign aims to address various disciplinary violations, not solely judicial corruption. Despite progress, challenges remain in eradicating corruption. New guidelines focus on investigating collusion between public officials and businesses, as well as hidden forms of corruption. Xi's campaign has also helped him eliminate rivals and strengthen his control over the Communist Party. Recent data shows that 680,000 individuals were punished in the first nine months of this year, including 105 provincial or ministerial-level officials.
