CIG will have one million euros for new skills and strategy for Roma communities
The Portuguese government allocates one million euros to the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG) to develop a strategy for Roma communities, which has been lacking since 2023. This funding will allow CIG to take over responsibilities previously held by the Agency for Integration, Migrations, and Asylum (AIMA), focusing on combating discrimination and racism. Secretary of State Carla Rodrigues emphasized the need for a national strategy for Roma integration and mentioned ongoing efforts to create a new strategic framework. The National Plan to Combat Racism will also be extended until June 30, 2027.
