Five new cases of measles in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo
Five cases of measles have been reported in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo since October 6, raising the total to 15 confirmed infections this year in Portugal. The cases involve three adults, one child, and an infant, with three being imported from countries with high measles incidence. The health authorities are conducting epidemiological investigations and implementing public health measures, including contact tracing and vaccination guidance. Despite the international circulation of the virus, the DGS emphasizes that this does not necessarily indicate a sustained transmission risk in Portugal. Vaccination coverage remains high, providing a barrier against transmission.
