What after the liquidated mine? "We want to create spaces for companies here"

New regulations for mine liquidation were introduced this year, starting with the Bobrek mine in Bytom. The Polish Mining Group is currently liquidating two mines: Wujek and Bielszowice, a process expected to take about four years. This involves securing underground workings, removing equipment, and managing surface infrastructure. Over 50 mines have been liquidated by the Mine Restructuring Company in 26 years, but not all closures mean the end of operations, as seen with parts of the former Śląsk mine. The Wieczorek mine's liquidation took years, but now a major urban investment is underway on its site, aiming to create spaces for companies in fields like AI and gaming, with completion expected in two years.
