Comets did not bring life to Earth, study says

A new study from the University of Cambridge challenges the theory that comets brought life to Earth, suggesting that essential elements may have arrived by chance. Advanced computational models indicate that comets traveled too fast and at steep angles, causing fragile organic molecules to vaporize upon impact. The researchers propose that life's chemical precursors could have originated from internal Earth processes or asteroid impacts instead. Historically, comets were believed to carry vital carbon and nitrogen molecules, but this study raises doubts about that idea. The findings may aid in the search for life in other systems, especially with future telescopes like the proposed "Habitable Worlds Observatory."
