Room completed at Lisbon Airport to hear blocked migrants

The construction of a room for hearings of foreign migrants denied entry at Lisbon Airport is complete, but it is not yet operational due to pending equipment installation. The Council of Superior Magistracy (CSM) has not provided a specific date for when the hearings will begin. This initiative aims to enhance the protection of fundamental rights for individuals facing border procedures and is part of a broader European migration framework. Portugal is among the first EU countries to implement such a facility, which will allow hearings to occur in the airport's international zone with judicial presence. In 2025, 1,867 passengers were denied entry, highlighting the need for this system.
