The realization of Greater Sunrise is an economic imperative
President José Ramos-Horta emphasized the economic necessity of developing the Greater Sunrise gas fields in the Timor Sea to create jobs and secure Timor-Leste's financial future. Following the closure of the Bayu-Undan gas field, he stated that advancing Greater Sunrise is crucial. He expressed confidence in Woodside Energy's commitment to channel resources directly to Timor-Leste's southern coast, fostering mutual benefits. Recent negotiations have concluded on key regulatory agreements with Australia and Woodside. The Greater Sunrise fields, located 150 kilometers from Timor-Leste, hold significant untapped natural resources, with estimated contingent resources of 5.13 trillion cubic feet of gas. Timor-Leste expects production to commence by 2034.
