First case of Shamonda virus confirmed in France
The first human case of the Shamonda virus has been confirmed in France, linked to a patient with severe immunosuppression. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is monitoring the situation, stating that there is currently no risk to the general population. The virus, primarily affecting livestock, was previously thought to be non-transmissible to humans. The infected individual, who passed away in early October, likely contracted the virus through a mosquito bite. Investigations are ongoing to determine the virus's role in the patient's death and the infection's transmission.
