Haitian electoral council calls for elections in the summer of 2027
Haitian electoral authorities have scheduled presidential and legislative elections for the summer of 2027, marking over a decade since the last elections. The first round is set for July 18, with a second round on October 4, as announced by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). This is the third date established for these elections, which were previously postponed indefinitely. Haiti has not held elections since 2016, and the last president, Jovenel Moïse, was assassinated in 2021. Currently, 19 candidates, including two former presidents, have registered for the presidency. The country is facing severe political, economic, and security crises, worsened by gang violence.
