Counterfeiting, Italy blocks 80% of fakes seized in the EU market
In 2025, Italy intercepted 80.2% of counterfeit goods in the EU, totaling 140 million items valued at €3.4 billion. This marks a 71% increase from 2024. The report highlights that Italy, France, the Netherlands, and Spain accounted for nearly 97% of all seizures. CDs and DVDs were the most seized items, followed by toys and labels. At external borders, customs seized 42.1 million items, a 114% increase from the previous year, largely due to a significant tobacco seizure. The EU plans to enhance customs efficiency through a new authority utilizing AI for real-time tracking of shipments.
