COP17 on biodiversity: nations agree on push to get nature goals back on track
At the COP17 conference in Yerevan, nearly 200 nations reached agreements to combat biodiversity loss by 2030 after intense negotiations. The summit highlighted the urgent need for increased action and funding to protect ecosystems, with significant discussions on harmful subsidies and conservation financing. Despite progress, many targets remain unmet, and the need for an estimated $700 billion annually for conservation efforts was emphasized. Ecuador was selected to host the next biodiversity summit in 2028, following a competitive voting process.
