Corina Machado calls for protest to demand presidential elections

María Corina Machado, Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, called for a national mobilization on October 22 to demand presidential elections. She urged citizens to participate with their families and flags, emphasizing the importance of collective action for freedom. The opposition coalition, Plataforma Unitaria Democrática, supports this protest, which also seeks the release of political prisoners and Machado's safe return to Caracas. Carlos Alberto Fernández outlined four key demands, including a clear electoral calendar and presidential elections by July 24, 2027. The opposition remains skeptical about the government's intentions regarding election timing, suspecting a delay until 2028.
