Costa urges Houthis to negotiate under the auspices of the UN

The President of the European Council urged Houthi rebels to cease attacks and return to UN-led negotiations, emphasizing that only a political solution can bring peace to Yemen. António Costa expressed full EU support for the Yemeni government and condemned the escalating humanitarian crisis affecting millions. He highlighted the intensifying civil war and the renewed fighting since July, which ended a four-year truce. The Houthis have also increased attacks on Saudi Arabia, targeting critical infrastructure. Their recent capture of the Yemeni Red Sea coast strengthens their control over the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
