Crowdfunding raises 1 million euros for the reconstruction of the burned-down town hall in Limoges
A crowdfunding campaign for the reconstruction of the Limoges town hall has surpassed 1 million euros, following its destruction during protests on October 17. The independent non-profit Fondation du patrimoine reported over 9,000 donors contributing a total of 1,007,700 euros. The town hall, built in 1883, suffered significant damage, including the collapse of its roof and bell tower. The Ministry of Culture is assessing the total reconstruction costs, aiming for temporary coverage by early next year and completion by 2030 or 2031. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced that the town hall will be classified as a historical monument, allowing access to specific funding, with the state covering reconstruction costs alongside public and private donations.
