Ueno Bank, one of OTP's foreign investments, serving 63 percent of the Paraguayan population, is close to bankruptcy.

The Paraguayan Ueno Bank, the country's largest financial institution, collapsed recently, affecting 2.9 million customers. OTP Bank, which holds a nearly 10% stake, stated it was merely a financial investor without management control. The Central Bank of Paraguay initiated a resolution process after the bank's solvency ratio fell below the legal minimum. Customers currently cannot access their funds, leading to police presence at branches to prevent unrest. Ueno Bank has been pivotal in expanding banking services in Paraguay, including ATMs and card usage.
