Curator of the Museum of Tomorrow notes a way of life in extinction and appeals to the imagination of new futures
The curator of the Museum of Tomorrow, Fábio Scarano, emphasized that the current way of living is in decline and called for a revival of imagination to envision different futures. Speaking at the Shaping Ecological Futures conference in Coimbra, he linked contemporary societal issues to Dante's concepts of hell, purgatory, and paradise, arguing that society is alienated and fragmented. Scarano suggested that regeneration requires repairing relationships and recognizing the need for a new beginning. He criticized the lack of imagination in envisioning social structures beyond current hierarchies and highlighted the role of art and culture in shaping sustainable futures. He warned that without memory and attention, society risks collapse, advocating for a path towards a new beginning that embraces utopian ideals.
