Dakar2026. Rower José Azevedo will have to compete in a new qualification

José Azevedo, a 17-year-old rower, failed to qualify directly for the round of 16 in the beach sprint solo event at the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar. He finished 15th in the first qualifying round, missing the top eight spots needed for direct advancement. Azevedo expressed regret over focusing too much on correcting mistakes instead of maximizing power during his performance. He will compete again in the second qualifying round on Sunday, aiming to improve and secure a spot in the next stage. The Youth Olympic Games officially began today in Dakar, featuring 25 Portuguese athletes.
