In the Southeast and Corsica, two dead after record weather events
Two individuals died on October 20 due to severe Mediterranean weather in Bouches-du-Rhône and Haute-Corse. This exceptional weather event caused flooding and significant transport disruptions, including flight cancellations from Bastia airport and suspension of train services in Corsica. Heavy rainfall began early on October 20, with Solenzara recording 538.5 millimeters of precipitation, an unprecedented amount for such a short period in France. A 4x4 vehicle was swept away by a torrent, resulting in the death of a 65-year-old driver, while a passenger managed to escape. Additionally, 21 residents of a nursing home in Prunelli-di-Fiumorbo were evacuated due to rising waters and relocated to other facilities on the island.
