The Court of Audit was indeed right, Justice Minister Van Weel retracts disagreement on unprocessed police reports
The Dutch Minister of Justice, David van Weel, acknowledged that over 10,000 serious crime reports remained unprocessed by the police in 2024. Following a report from the Court of Audit, the minister confirmed that the police would reassess these cases, prioritizing attempted murder and serious sexual offenses. Initially, Van Weel had downplayed the issue, suggesting many reports lacked investigative leads. However, subsequent analysis revealed that 9,063 reports were indeed unaddressed, prompting a review process with a budget of 1.5 million euros. The reassessment aims to ensure victims are taken seriously while balancing the handling of new reports.
