De Watergroep invests 5 million euros in additional PFAS treatment in Leut: "Important for clean and safe drinking water"

De Watergroep is investing 5 million euros in PFAS treatment at the Leut water production center to reduce PFAS levels in drinking water. This decision follows a question from Flemish MP Andy Pieters to Environment Minister Jo Brouns. The investment involves using activated carbon for effective PFAS removal, although it was not part of the initial investment plans. The Leut center currently exceeds the target PFAS levels set for 2028, prompting the need for this upgrade. The Watergroep assures that the drinking water meets legal standards, but aims to comply with stricter target values. The project is in the design phase, with construction expected to start next year.
