Decriminalization of abortion. The Sejm voted "in favor"
The Polish parliament has voted on amendments to the Penal Code regarding abortion laws. The amendments include the repeal of penalties for women terminating pregnancies and those assisting them under certain conditions. Additionally, the law now allows abortion in cases of severe fetal defects, reversing a previous Constitutional Tribunal ruling that deemed this provision unconstitutional. The vote saw 233 in favor and 203 against, with one abstention. This legislative move aims to restore rights that were affected by the Tribunal's decision from October 2020.
