Demographic deniers. We cannot stop depopulation, but we can prepare for it

The project "Demography. Economy of Generations" by Rzeczpospolita examines how demographic changes affect Poland's economy. The declining working-age population and aging society impact labor markets, public finances, and healthcare systems. Experts are consulted on strategies for Poland's continued development and competitiveness. The article highlights demographic issues in three medium-sized cities in Łódź Voivodeship, showing significant population declines and negative natural growth rates. It emphasizes the disconnect between demographic realities and public discourse, particularly regarding school capacities and the need for adaptation to these changes. The discussion reveals that the focus on emigration overlooks the critical issue of declining birth rates, which poses broader challenges for local governance and social services.
