The Hague wants to recover financial damages from inciters for shopkeepers

Richard de Mos, the alderman of The Hague, is exploring whether individuals who incited violence on social media can be held accountable for damages incurred by local businesses. In anticipation of potential riots, shopkeepers boarded up their stores ahead of protests called for by youth on platforms like Snapchat and Instagram. Although the situation remained manageable with police presence and 34 arrests, many businesses reported significant financial losses due to closures. De Mos expressed relief that looting did not occur but emphasized the absurdity of entrepreneurs having to barricade their shops due to online calls for violence. He plans to collaborate with business organizations and legal experts to seek compensation for the damages.
