Roman settlement from the 1st century discovered in Murcia

The archaeological site of San Esteban in Murcia has uncovered structural remains of a previously unknown Roman settlement from the 1st century. This discovery enhances the historical timeline of the area, which also showed evidence of medieval occupation. Excavations revealed Roman artifacts, including heating systems, lamps, imported ceramics, a Roman coin, and a small idol with inscriptions. The findings suggest a significant Roman presence in southern Spain, with the medieval settlement's occupation dating back to the 10th century, extending until the 14th century. Future plans include constructing a plaza over the archaeological remains.
