Unemployment remains at 5.6% in September, but shows a year-on-year decrease

The unemployment rate in Portugal remained stable at 5.6% in September, unchanged from the previous month but down 0.3 percentage points compared to the same month last year. According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), this translates to 313,000 unemployed individuals, reflecting a decrease of 1.6% from August and 4.9% from September 2025. The underemployment rate also held steady at 9.6%, showing a decline of 0.4 percentage points from the previous year.
