Bailiffs and debt counselors sign agreement: faster assistance process, less rapid seizure

Five Dutch bailiff offices have signed an agreement with the NVVK to expedite debt relief processes for individuals facing financial difficulties. This initiative aims to reduce stress for those in debt by allowing bailiffs to pause enforcement actions when a debtor seeks help from a debt counselor. The average debt for individuals seeking assistance is around €40,000, with many dealing with multiple creditors. The NVVK hopes this collaboration will encourage more bailiffs to adopt similar practices, emphasizing the importance of early intervention and cooperation in addressing debt issues. Queen Máxima and Minister Vijlbrief have also highlighted the need for collaborative efforts to tackle the debt crisis.
