Diemenaar receives fourteen years in prison on appeal for 'abortion murder'

A 55-year-old man, Van E., was sentenced to 15 years in prison for forcing his pregnant girlfriend to undergo an abortion, resulting in both her and the unborn child's death. The woman, who was between 32 and 37 weeks pregnant, was coerced into consuming alcohol, abortion pills, and drugs, leading to severe complications. The court emphasized Van E.'s deliberate intent to end the child's life and his negligence in seeking medical help for his girlfriend. Although he was initially sentenced to 16 years and mandatory treatment, the court did not impose treatment due to a lack of diagnosed disorders. Van E. is also required to pay compensation to the victim's family.
