Dinosaur skeleton auctioned for 42 million euros, second most valuable fossil ever
A dinosaur skeleton of a newly identified species, nanotyrannus, was auctioned but did not break the record set by a T. rex skeleton. The auction lasted twelve minutes with six bidders, but the buyer's identity remains undisclosed. The skeleton, approximately 3 meters tall and consisting of around 191 fossil bones, is the first of its kind available for sale since its species was formally recognized. Scientists express concern over such auctions, fearing valuable fossils may be lost to private collectors instead of being displayed in museums for public education and inspiration.
