DNA match leads to arrest in over thirty-year-old rape case
A cold case involving the rape of a deaf and visually impaired girl in Sint-Michielsgestel has been reopened. The 15-year-old was attacked on May 30, 1994, while waiting to be returned to a school for the deaf. The suspect allegedly abducted her in a car and assaulted her before releasing her near her home. Initial investigations yielded no results due to the limitations of early DNA testing. However, recent advancements allowed the cold case team to re-examine preserved evidence, leading to a DNA match with the suspect, who is already in a national database for another crime. The suspect has been remanded for an additional 14 days.
