DNA match leads to arrest of 57-year-old man for sex case from 1994

A 57-year-old man from Helmond has been arrested for the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl in 1994, identified through a DNA match. The victim, who is deaf and visually impaired, was waiting for transportation with other children when the suspect allegedly abducted her and assaulted her in a nearby forest. Despite previous investigations yielding no arrests, evidence was preserved for future inquiries. Recently, the cold case team revisited the case, leading to a DNA match with the suspect, whose profile was in the national database due to another crime. He is currently in custody and has been remanded for an additional fourteen days.
