Two channels and around one hundred jobs eliminated at the BBC
The BBC plans to cut around 100 jobs and close two channels, including BBC Scotland, by spring 2027 due to declining revenues. This move is part of a broader strategy to save £500 million by 2028, which may involve eliminating up to 2,000 positions. Rachel Jupp, the new director of BBC News, confirmed the job cuts, aiming for more efficient use of resources. The closures will also affect BBC Three and Radio 4 Extra, although their content will remain available online. The Scottish Culture Minister criticized the closure of BBC Scotland as unacceptable, highlighting the changing landscape of media consumption, particularly among younger audiences.
