"House of Human Rights". Portuguese demand lower rental prices for apartments

Thousands protested in Lisbon demanding affordable housing and criticizing the government for inaction on rising rental prices. Average rents exceed 21 euros per square meter, making housing unattainable for many. Activist Joao Peixoto condemned the center-right government led by Prime Minister Luis Montenegro for lacking solutions. While the protests were peaceful, police had previously intervened against attempts to set up tents. Similar demonstrations occurred in Braga, Coimbra, and Aveiro, highlighting widespread discontent among young Portuguese citizens regarding housing issues.
