Cigarettes will be more expensive
Starting November 1, excise taxes on all tobacco products will increase, impacting smokers. The tax on cigarettes will rise by 9%, while heated tobacco products will see a 25% increase, and fine-cut tobacco will increase by 26%. This will lead to approximately a 5% increase in cigarette prices and around a 10% increase for heated tobacco products, depending on how manufacturers pass on the tax hike to consumers. The decision was made by the National Assembly on September 15, with the finance minister stating that the additional revenue of 90 billion HUF will be used to expand healthcare resources.
