Expensive gas did not stop production. What are the companies planning?
Natural gas prices in Europe have surged significantly, with TTF nearing 104 euros per MWh and TGE exceeding 450 PLN. This marks a dramatic increase from two months ago, when prices were 69 euros in the Netherlands and 301 PLN in Poland. The rise is particularly impactful for the fertilizer industry, as companies like Azoty face challenges in maintaining production due to high gas costs, which account for 60-70% of their expenses. In contrast, firms like Kęty and KGHM are less affected due to lower gas cost proportions in their overall expenses. KGHM is adjusting its energy production methods in response to high gas prices but does not plan to cut metal production. Meanwhile, Orlen continues to expand its operations in the gas market, leveraging its diverse business segments to mitigate price volatility.
